Permanent Makeup Aftercare

Permanent makeup is the process of implanting pigment into the upper layers of the skin itself. It can change the color of the lips or eyebrows or give them shape, with results that can be seen immediately.

When you have had permanent makeup done, you must take good care of the area while it heals. If you do not, some pigment may peel, and you will not achieve your expected results. The most important thing is to keep it clean, so this is what you should do:

  • Always wash the tattooed area every day in the morning.

  • Use warm water to wash the area GENTLY, then pat it dry.

  • After a few days, you can use a non-perfumed soap to clean the tattooed area. Only apply a tiny amount.

  • Apply a small amount of petroleum jelly or ointment to trap moisture in the skin and ensure it does not dry out. (Your artist will provide or suggest the best to use)

  • It would be best to use a cotton pad/ball to apply anything to the area rather than applying with your hands; this ensures a gentler approach and minimizes the chances of infection.

  • Avoid as much as you can touching, picking, or scratching the tattooed area. It should be entirely covered by fresh air and with minimal pressure applied to the area. Touching the area can slow down the process and lead to scarring. If you get flakey bits, wait until they fall off, then begin your aftercare process again.

  • If you swim, be sure to wash it immediately afterward, and apply petroleum jelly or ointment to prevent the chlorine from drying it out.

  • If you are going to go in the sun, be sure to apply sunscreen. Tattooed skin is susceptible to the sun and will quickly burn, slowing down your healing process.

  • If the scab happens to fall off and you see black, don't worry, this is just dried pigment, and it will disappear eventually.

  • When you take your makeup off at the end of the day, make sure you use a mild cleanser, don't use any lotions or creams.

Permanent makeup is a powerful way to enhance your natural features, but it requires aftercare once the procedure has been completed. It is essential that you follow these tips in order to make sure you maintain optimal results for as long as possible. Properly caring for the area will also help reduce any risk of infection or scarring.
